The other day, I watched the space shuttle land (on television,) which wasn't as impressive as watching it launch, but it was cool all the same. Someday I will get to see it in person! But, I digress. Watching this got me interested in space-type things, so I began to peruse the NASA website (www.nasa.gov) and found THOUSANDS of pictures that are all public domain (for verification of this, you can read NASA's copyright notification here.) So, I began looking at and downloading pictures that were primarily of regional interest to me (pictures of the southeast US and the Louisiana/Texas/Arkansas area.) I also got a couple of the Grand Canyon because they are simply spectacular. On this page, I will present the thumbnails and a brief description of each image. You may click on the thumbnail to see the larger image. I have made notations on the images to help you figure out what you are looking at. You may email questions, comments, suggestions, etc. to twalker@jam.rr.com

I have also downloaded a few interesting NASA videos. To see them, click here.

This is a picture of Alexandria, Louisiana. You can make out various rivers, highways, and England Air Force Base.

The Dallas/Ft. Worth area. You can see DFW airport.

The Grand Canyon

Another Grand Canyon

Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. You can see the causeway bridge in this picture. The causeway is the world's longest bridge at 24 miles.

This is a meteor crater near Winslow, Arizona

The Louisiana delta where the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico

This is my part of the world. Monroe (where I live) is visible, according to the NASA website and I think that I have it noted correctly but it is pretty difficult to tell for sure. Other features of north Louisiana are visible in this picture.

This is around Pecos, TX. I thought this image was interesting because you can see oil fields as I have noted on the image.

This is a picture of the point near Texarkana where the Red River changes course from east to south. The city of Texarkana is visible.

Another picture of the Red River and Texarkana from the opposite angle. Shrevport and Barksdale Air Force Base are visible in the bottom right corner of the image.

This is an impressive looking shot of the southeastern United States. Many land features are visible as well as several smoke plumes from fires.

Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana. Barksdale AFB is visible as well as Cross Lake.

Southwest Louisiana -- Lake Charles and Lafayette are visible.

More fires on the Texas and Louisiana coasts

More fires in TX and LA, this time inland
